Our Mission

Hope for Goma exists to provide international funding and support for Centre Medical Maman Clementine (CMMC) and Watoto Kwa Babu orphanage.

Who We are

Hope for Goma was formed in 2025 and is a ministry of Christ Reformed Presbyterian Church in Riverside, Rhode Island, USA.

Ministries in Goma

The Work We Support

Our partner Centre Medical Maman Clementine is on the ground providing care to women and children who have fled to Goma from occupied or ruined villages in the region. A gift to Hope for Goma enables Centre Medical Maman Clementine (CMMC) to offer care in four key areas:

Medical Care

Centre Medical Maman Clementine

As well as providing general hospital services, CMMC has a focused mission to care for expectant mothers by providing medical care, childrearing classes, and spiritual support. It began as a clinic serving the Watoto Kwa Babu orphanage, and both organizations continue to serve the people of North Kivu State and beyond in the name of Jesus Christ.

Who this Helps

CMMC focuses on caring for pregnant women, most of whom have lost everything and have had to flee their homes due to violence. While some patients have the means to contribute toward their care, most seek treatment at CMMC because of the commitment to providing services regardless of a patient's ability to pay.

How this Helps

Pregnancy is a critical time in a woman’s life, and the work of CMMC allows mothers who have lost everything to be cared for and not pressured to have abortions.

Hope Reborn

Women who have been displaced by war and left homeless and desperate are given medical treatment, parenting advice, and gospel truth. This can be a new foundation of hope to continue fighting for the health and wellbeing of themselves and their babies.

Orphan Care

Watoto Kwa Babu Orphanage

Children are often abandoned in Goma. The name “Watoto Kwa Babu” translates as My Grandpa’s House, reflecting how grandparents can step in to care for children when their parents die.

Who this Helps

Orphans and children are abandoned and left with nothing because of the war and violence in the region. The orphanage is currently home to 44 children.

How this Helps

Children are given food, clothing, medical care, shelter, and an education.

Hope Rebuilt

The goal is to provide a new, caring family so that these children can grow up healthy and safe, with hope for the future.

Mobile Medicine

Mobile Clinic

Being able to transport care throughout Goma, refugee camps, and wherever needed allows CMMC to help more people.

Who this Helps

Many people need care but have no way to get to the hospital. This includes people outside Goma, the critically ill unable to travel within Goma, and even children abandoned on the streets.

How this Helps

The clinic makes regular trips to nearby areas that need help. Nurses and doctors are able to bring medical equipment, including an ultrasound machine, medicine, and food to people in need.

Hope Extended

Medical advice, medicine, and food are brought throughout the region, expanding the impact of CMMC beyond its walls.

In Development

Sharing Hope Hospital

Still in the concept stages, the goal is to build a much larger facility in a new location. CMMC has been given a license by the local government to build and operate a hospital. This would enable a new level of care and much more capacity, something urgently needed in the region of Goma, which is acutely short of hospital beds.

Why a new hospital? A dire need for more and better medical care.

A 2022 review of surgical care in neighboring regions of North Kivu Province (where Goma is located) found a acute need for more surgical capacity and training in the region.

Since 2022, new waves of violence have displaced millions more and many people are fleeing rural villages to cities like Goma. All of this means that building and staffing a new hospital in Goma would meet a critical need.

Hope for Goma is working with our local partners to support medical and spiritual care. Will you join us?

Your support will enable CMMC to move past the concept stage to make the Sharing Hope Hospital a reality.
