The invasion of Goma by the M23 rebel group in January of 2025 saw a surge of new orphans trying to survive. The kids with so much weight on their backs from recent tragedies had no one to go to and faced either living on the streets or becoming child soldiers. With the Kwa Babu Orphanage filled up, local volunteers agreed to take in the orphans. CMMC and Kwa Babu have partnered with the volunteers to supply much-needed medication, food, and clothing.
In this picture, orphans in this volunteer-run orphanage (crowded inside an old house) enjoy a treat of candy gifted by CMMC. In a time of so much darkness, these lollipops provide a bright spot for these children who have endured so much.
